Make a Wish

Poetic response to "The Metaphor"

Candles are burning on my birthday cake,
All my friends are singing,
What wish shall I make?
My thoughts are flying.

I should wish for a prettier look,
I should wish for more friends.
I should wish for not living in a box,
With that white picket fence around.

Candles are burning,
My friends are waiting,
I can not make up my mind,
With all those people watching.

When the candles extinguish,
Warmth vanishes and lights disappear,
but I haven not made my wish--
a party that goes on forever.

The Whisper of the Hollyhock

A poetic response to "The sound of the Hollyhocks" by H. Garner

The flowers love to talk,
Daises roses and the hollyhock.
When it is silent, you can hear them so well,
Now, hush, a story is they are about to tell.

Beside the window, there used to be Rock,
A young man who was always listening to the hollyhocks.
With a heart that is broken and future chosen,
He kept his own dream forever unspoken.

One late Autumn night, I had a nightmare,
I saw a star falling across the still night air;
Like a diamond fell into heaps of coal.
With it, there rose a young man's mournful soul.

Twelve Hint Fictions in Only Six Words.

It is so amazing that only six words can tell pathos or love.
Which one touched you the most?

1. Painfully, he changed "is" to "was".

2. "Wrong number," says a familiar voice.

3. First heartbreak. Nineteen years wishing.

4. She was lovely. Then things changed.

5. One candle, unattended. Only ashes remain.

6. I leave. Dog panics. Furniture sale.

7. Married. Till fatness do us part.

8. Cancer. Only three months left. Pregnant.

9. Imagined adulthood. Gained adulthood. Lost Imagination.

10. Relationship expires; leaves a bitter aftertaste.

11. Nothing to declare. Much to remember.

12. New start. New you. Not you.
